About the project The Ōtaki to North Levin project focuses on upgrading the transport link along State Highway 1 (SH1) between Ōtaki and North Levin to improve road safety, reduce congestion, enhance travel efficiency, and support regional economic growth. In partnership with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, Muaūpoko Tribal Authority, local hapū of Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga, and the Horowhenua District Council, this project will be executed through a two-alliance approach. Each alliance will be responsible for delivering a section of the road and associated works, ensuring a collaborative and comprehensive delivery. This exciting new four-lane 24.8km highway project will dramatically improve safety and resilience, providing better access to walking and cycling facilities for those moving around or through the Horowhenua and Kāpiti districts. The project includes multiple large complex bridge structures plus a full interchange at Taraua Road, a half interchange north at Taylors Road, two roundabouts and approximately 4m m3 of complex earthworks ,significant drainage infrastructure and a structural asphalt concrete pavement.
