The VIE Instrumentation Technician works under the supervision of the Project Manager and supports project execution in line with company standards. They provide technical support, contribute to design recommendations, and ensure the quality and reliability of deliverables. This role offers a rewarding hands-on experience with real responsibilities and strong learning opportunities.


YOUR MISSIONS WITH US :

Essential Functions : 
- Performs the work and enforces the rules in accordance with all applicable regulations, policies, methods, and practices developed for Instrumentation Work; Responsible for safety in the work environment,
- Provides support for the preparation of submittals, designs, material purchases, and accurate record keeping.
- Demonstrates ability to perform the tasks listed in the Table 1 below,
- Attends client meetings and participates in presentations as assigned,
- Provides documentation and supports Project Manager to prepare and track claims, change orders, extra work orders, 
- Assists in risk assessment,
- Other duties as assigned,

Elementary Tasks : 
- Pre-installation : design, building, acceptance testing, logging and records keeping, comparing installation plan to technical/client requirements, delivery to site. Notification to Project Manager of defect 
- On-site installation : assembling, installing, on-site configuring and commissioning, verification of normal readings, documenting and records keeping including Pre and Post installation photos and forms.
- Post-Installation : prepare submittals, perform necessary programming of loggers, provide information, documenting and records keeping as required to Project Manager and Monitoring Engineers for their proper implementation on the IDMS,
- On-site maintenance and operations : routine QC inspections, calibrations, maintenance and cleaning, observe system performance, diagnose failures and subsequently failure prevention, perform repairs as necessary, document site conditions and identify potential problem areas, documentation and record keeping as required,
- Decommissioning and disposal : uninstall instruments and associated components, dispose of non-reusable parts, repatriation of re-usable parts to the relevant office, cleaning and restoration of site to pre-existing conditions, cleaning and restoration of inventoried instruments for future deployments, documentation of the inventory data base&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

- A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) is preferred
- First Aid / CPR certification

Key Responsibilities
Business Development
Develop and execute the company’s business development plan.
Identify new opportunities and cultivate relationships with clients, engineers, and contractors.
Collaborate with the Vancouver team to ensure cohesive national coverage and sharing of market intelligence.
Represent SIXENSE at industry events and promote innovative technical solutions.
Maintain a CRM database and monitor emerging market trends
Estimating &amp; Proposals
Lead the preparation of technical and commercial proposals from opportunity to award.
Analyze RFPs, conduct site visits, and coordinate with operations and technical teams.
Ensure competitive pricing, quality submissions, and compliance with company standards.
Support project handover and client follow-up after contract award
Location: Burnaby, BC (occasional travel across Canada)
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary Range: CAD 110-160k + Bonus based on performance&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Structural, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline (GIS, Data Science, Monitoring, etc.).
Minimum 5 years of instrumentation and monitoring experience in engineering and construction within transportation infrastructure, tunnelling, heavy civil, mining or oil &amp; gas, hydro sectors.
Proven experience in business development, client relationship management, and proposal/estimating for technical or engineering services.
Strong understanding of project delivery methods, contract negotiation, and risk assessment.
Ability to interpret complex technical solutions and communicate them clearly to non-specialists.
Proficiency in business software (Excel, PowerPoint, CRM platforms such as Salesforce, and ideally basic CAD or data visualization tools).
Excellent organization, communication, and presentation skills.

The successful candidate will navigate the complexities of Ontario construction law, rigorously manage specialized subcontractors, and ensure the deployment of advanced sensor networks is executed to Sixense Group, and our Client’s Standards. This role requires a decisive professional capable of owning a project while uncompromisingly protecting site safety and data integrity.

 YOUR MISSIONS WITH US:
Project Execution &amp; Technical Delivery:
Direct the full lifecycle of a dedicated I&amp;M project, ensuring the precise installation and commissioning of technical assets (e.g., AMTS, VW Piezometers, Inclinometers, and telemetry) in strict alignment with approved Work Method Statements (WMS).
Commercial &amp; Contract Control : 
Assume full P&amp;L accountability for the project, setting and forecasting budgets with strategic financial management.
Apply CCDC standard and modified contract frameworks and ensure strict procedural adherence to the Ontario Construction Act and Prompt Payment legislative requirements to protect project margins and cash flow.
Lead project-level contract negotiations, identify scope creep immediately, and manage change-order mechanisms.
 
Safety &amp; Risk Management :
Take overall responsibility and accountability for the prevention of work-related injury and ill health, as well as the provision of safe and healthy workplaces and activities across the project site. 
Implement robust processes for the elimination of hazards and reduction of OH&amp;S risks using the recognized hierarchy of controls. 
Develop, audit, and strictly enforce site-specific Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and Safe Work Procedures (SWP).
 
Subcontractor &amp; Supply Chain Vetting :
Ensure that externally provided processes, products and services conform to requirements. 
Manage specialized subcontractors (e.g., geotechnical drilling, hydrovac, and civils contractors) against Sixense technical, commercial, and safety standards throughout deployment on our project sites.
 
Stakeholder &amp; Client Interface :
Act as the primary point of contact for the client’s project-level stakeholders, facilitating decisive communication regarding monitoring data, schedule milestones, and site access coordination.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
