HEB Construction is a leading civil construction company and part of VINCI Construction. We deliver complex infrastructure projects across New Zealand, including bridges, wharves, piling, precast concrete structures and associated civil works.
About the project
 
The Ōtaki to North Levin project focuses on upgrading the transport link along State Highway 1 (SH1) between Ōtaki and North Levin to improve road safety, reduce congestion, enhance travel efficiency, and support regional economic growth.
In partnership with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, Muaūpoko Tribal Authority, local hapū of Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga, and the Horowhenua District Council, this project will be executed through a two-alliance approach. Each alliance will be responsible for delivering a section of the road and associated works, ensuring a collaborative and comprehensive delivery.
 
This exciting new four-lane 24.8km highway project will dramatically improve safety and resilience, providing better access to walking and cycling facilities for those moving around or through the Horowhenua and Kāpiti districts. The project includes multiple large complex bridge structures plus a full interchange at Taraua Road, a half interchange north at Taylors Road, two roundabouts and approximately 4m m3 of complex earthworks ,significant drainage infrastructure and a structural asphalt concrete pavement.
 
The Role
 
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will provide technical and operational support across bridge and structural construction projects. The role involves on‑site engineering support, coordination of subcontractors, quality assurance, safety leadership and assistance with programme and cost management. You will also support methodology development and setting‑out activities while working closely with site management teams to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to specification.

Key Responsibilities
Provide engineering support on bridge construction projects, including piling, substructures and superstructures
Assist with construction methodologies, temporary works coordination and sequencing
Support health and safety planning, safe work methodologies and on‑site compliance
Assist with procurement, subcontractor coordination and cost tracking
Manage quality assurance processes, inspections, testing and documentation
Carry out site set‑out and verification using construction drawings and site datums
Assist with programme updates, variations and extension of time claims
Support environmental compliance and best‑practice site control&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
About You
You are a motivated Senior Site or Project Engineer with hands‑on experience delivering bridge or major structural works. You enjoy working on site, are detail‑focused and thrive in a team‑based construction environment.
What you will bring:
Engineering qualification or Bachelor’s degree
Experience working as a Senior Site Engineer on bridge and structural construction projects for at least 5 years

What We're Looking For

Essential Experience
Minimum 8+ years' experience delivering civil infrastructure projects

Demonstrated success managing project programmes, budgets, subcontractors, and technical delivery

Vous jouerez un rôle de point de contact privilégié en Nouvelle-Zélande pour faciliter l'intégration entre les équipes locales et les équipes VINCI Construction SI :
 
 - Contribuer à la coordination opérationnelle locale du programme d'intégration IT

About the opportunity

What You’ll Be Doing
Designing and implementing advanced corrosion management strategies
Conducting inspections, testing programs, and technical investigations
Performing cathodic protection (CP) testing, monitoring, design, and installation
Diagnosing corrosion mechanisms and delivering practical, effective solutions
Advising on material selection and advanced protection systems
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project success and compliance
Building strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies
Producing high-quality technical reports and specifications
Promoting best practice through knowledge sharing and mentoring
Monitoring system performance and driving continuous improvement initiatives
Staying up to date with emerging technologies and industry innovations
Supporting project planning, reporting, and forecasting activities

What You’ll Bring
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Corrosion Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or similar
Construction White Card
NACE (or equivalent) certification highly regarded

Experience &amp; Skills
Minimum 5 years’ experience in corrosion-focused engineering roles
Strong knowledge of corrosion mechanisms, materials, and protection methods
Proven ability to solve complex technical challenges and deliver results
Experience working with Australian Standards and regulatory requirements
Strong communication skills with the ability to build lasting relationships

Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, and programming

About the Role
Reporting to the Project Director, you’ll be the commercial powerhouse of the project, ensuring robust contract management, accurate forecasting, strong supplier &amp; subcontractor relationships, and effective financial governance. In this role you will:
Lead all commercial operations across the project, ensuring financial performance, cost control, and commercial compliance.
Drive contract and subcontract management, including negotiation, claims, variations, EOTs and monthly valuations.
Build and mentor a high‑performing commercial team with a culture of ownership, innovation and excellence.
Oversee procurement systems, IT interfaces and project reporting.
Build strong relationships with internal teams, suppliers, subcontractors, and the Client.
Champion HEB’s can-do culture, leading by example every day.
This role has a direct impact on the project’s commercial success and is central to ensuring delivery excellence for HEB and the community.

Tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Accounting, or Law.
10+ years’ experience in QS or commercial management within large‑scale, complex infrastructure.

You’ll bring outstanding communication and negotiation skills, along with hands‑on experience managing the financial and commercial aspects of civil or infrastructure contracts. Your strong commercial acumen and deep understanding of contractual frameworks enable you to confidently navigate complex agreements, while your ability to build and maintain excellent relationships with clients and stakeholders fosters long‑term collaboration.
