Description of the assignment

Health, Safety & Environmental Coordinator (HSE Coordinator)

Full-Time | Hamilton, ON (Site Travel Required)

Pay Range: $25.00-28.00 hourly.

What your day-to-day will look like

In the field

  • Walking job sites, observing work, and talking with crews
  • Supporting hazard assessments (JHAs, energy-based risk reviews)
  • Participating in inspections, audits, and safety tours
  • Helping verify that critical controls are in place and working
  • Assisting with incident reviews and gathering accurate information  

Working with teams

  • Supporting supervisors and project teams with safety planning
  • Communicating with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies when required
  • Helping ensure consistency in documentation and expectations across teams
  • Contributing to a culture where people feel comfortable speaking up  

Systems, reporting, and follow-up

  • Tracking incidents, actions, and improvements in systems (e.g., Flex Manager)
  • Following up on corrective actions from incidents and audits
  • Supporting monthly reporting and trend tracking
  • Assisting with safety program documentation and updates 
     

Training & communication

  • Helping develop and deliver toolbox talks, workshops, and safety materials
  • Turning lessons learned into clear, practical takeaways
  • Creating or supporting visual and engaging safety communications  

Planning & project support

  • Assisting with project-specific hazard assessments and safety plans
  • Supporting pre-job planning, tender reviews, and contract requirements
  • Contributing to emergency response planning

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or related field
  • Co-op, internship, or field exposure is an asset—but not required
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and learning new systems

  • This role involves regular travel to construction sites
  • You’ll be working in active, sometimes physically demanding environments
  • Some administrative and reporting work is required alongside field responsibilities
  • You will be expected to learn quickly and take ownership of your development
