SCOPE OF POSITION
The Financial Controller at ConeTec Inc. reports directly to the Director of Finance and is responsible for participating and overseeing the day-to-day accounting for corporate entities and the related financial reporting, management accounting, treasury requirements, tax research, and filling requirements. Key functions for this position include financial and management reporting to support the strategic direction and operations of the company, providing analytics to support significant business decisions, implementing comprehensive controls designed to mitigate risks, ensuring compliance with regulatory and tax filings, reviewing, assessing, suggesting and implementing sound accounting workflows, business process efficiencies, and systems automation.
OVERALL GOALS FOR THE POSITION
- Responsible for relevance and timeliness of financial and management reports.
- Meeting required timelines & deadlines for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting.
- Anticipating issues and concerns, providing technical and practical solutions as appropriate.
- Implementing efficient and effective accounting policies, procedures, workflows, and process automation to ease the administrative burden on the accounting and managerial functions.
ROLES, RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
Strategy & Leadership
- In coordination with the Director of Finance, CFO and senior management, participate in the development of corporate goals, strategies, policies, and procedures, and establish company financial goals and targets.
- Ensure professional management of accounting, tax, and finance functions.
- Be an integral participant in BU forecasts and operating budgets, ensuring financial plans are consistent with company goals. Liaising and supporting BU managers with sound financial advice and solutions.
- Participate in regular management team meetings and provide BU department updates as required.
- Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
- Prepare ad hoc reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing trends.
- Provide financial analysis to evaluate company ventures, special projects, programs, and capital expenditures.
- Assist, coach, and mentor the team to achieve top performance (servant leadership).
Profile
Financial Management & Control
- Provide financial and management accounting analysis and reporting expertise to the Company.
- Implement financial management best practices.
- Prepare ad hoc analyses for the Director of Finance, CFO, VPs, and senior management team to support the business's strategy and operations.
- Establish and maintain financial management policies and procedures.
- Evaluate threats to the company from a financial perspective and advise on the appropriate course of action.
- Manage company accounting functions including cash management, accounts receivable and invoicing, accounts payable and payments, planning & budgeting, and financial & statistical reporting.
- Prepare financial statements and RM reports for management and other users.
- Participate in the design, implementation, and maintenance of appropriate accounting and other information systems required by the company.
- Design, implement, and maintain appropriate internal control procedures.
- Manage financial and legal relations with external parties, including auditors, government authorities, insurance providers, and others.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, and applicable federal and provincial/state regulations.
- Perform special financial projects as required, including but not limited to reviewing, assessing, suggesting, and implementing sound accounting workflows, business process efficiencies, and systems automation.
Regulatory & Financial Reporting
- Prepare and publish timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and statements.
- Manage the execution and delivery of internal and external reporting.
- Assist in the preparation of annual operating budgets and quarterly forecasts.
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
- Monitor and control cash flow.
- Manage and comply with Federal, State, and international government reporting requirements and tax filings.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Management/Administration required.
- CPA, MBA or equivalent a strong asset.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership, finance, and accounting experience required
Experience requirements:
- Must have 7+ years of progressive leadership, finance, and accounting experience required.
- Must have significant practical experience with a demonstrated ability to manage full-cycle accounting from source documents to financial statement preparation.
- Must have experience managing a team of 3-5 personnel.
- Experience with US and other foreign jurisdiction taxes.
- Experience working for a large publicly listed company and/or having public company reporting experience would be an asset.
- Systems implementation experience would be an asset.
Technical skill requirements:
- Must have strong working knowledge of IFRS, MS Office Programs and ERP software (Oracle PeopleSoft, SAP Dynamics NAV, and Sage Enterprise are strong assets)
