Description of the assignment
BA Blacktop Ltd. is seeking a driven Project Manager to lead construction projects across Greater Vancouver.
The Project Manager oversees project execution with support from Superintendents and Project Coordinators, coordinating plans, supervising crews and subcontractors, managing budgets and schedules, ensuring materials and inspections meet timelines, and prioritizing company-owned equipment over rentals.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Chairs bid handover meetings for assigned projects, except Level A projects under $100K, where the PM ensures a handover between the Superintendent and Estimator.
- Prior to construction, sets project schedule, objectives, and goals with the Superintendent to meet contract, budget, and company policy; reviews with Division Manager for Level B and C projects and submits comments on detail budget, time restraints, cost codes, and purchase control. Establishes job organization for field supervision.
- Reviews project insurance (Builder’s Risk, subcontractor certificates, special coverage) and ensures all permits are in place.
- Plans and schedules activities with the Superintendent daily or weekly as needed; updates progress schedules and leads pre-construction and execution planning meetings.
- Verifies material and resource deliveries, shop drawings, and ensures timely flow to avoid delays.
- Monitors costs and production with the Superintendent to meet budget; adjusts resources or conditions to optimize results.
- Prepares progress payments with the Superintendent, oversees pay requisitions, monitors receivables, and manages project closeout and warranty.
- Identifies and documents extra work or out-of-scope items, following contract processes to secure payment.
- Manages change orders and ensures timely Owner actions; handles all contractual notices and correspondence to protect company interests.
- Oversees day-to-day quality control of company and subcontractor work to ensure contract compliance.
- Communicates company policies and updates to staff.
- Represents the company ethically and professionally with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and colleagues.
- Adheres to WorkSafeBC standards, the Employment Standards Act, OFA III, and company health and safety policies.
- Checks estimating budget, prepares and validates PM budget for Ops Manager review, maintains the latest budget in Kheops, manages subcontracts, DB agreements, and purchase orders.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential Qualifications
- Well-developed understanding of road/bridge construction
- Knowledgeable in settlement, utilities, roadwork and structural work
- Primavera or MS Project
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Good communicator with owner, consultants, subcontractors, and staff
- Ability to complete the projects on time and budget
- Good timely billing and money collection from clients
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience with T&I Contract format is preferred.
- Registration as a PMP or P. Eng qualification.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS ON THE ROLE
Pay: $110,000 - $150,000 per year
Location: North Vancouver office with projects across Greater Vancouver.
