Description of the assignment

JOB TITLE Senior Quantity Surveyor

FUNCTION SB3 – HS2

ROLE LEVEL Reports to: Managing Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager

LOCATION Site Based – HS2 Area North, West Midlands

ROLE PURPOSE: To maximise profit and minimise risk for the company by identifying and using commercial opportunities under contract

INTERFACES Internal: Commercial and wider Project Team
External: Subcontractors, Customers, & Stakeholders

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Review and negotiate conditions of contracts and warranties
Administer contracts
Advise operations staff within the team regarding commercial and contractual issues
Prepare commercial and contractual correspondence
Prepare internal valuations and financial reports
Prepare external valuations
Negotiation and administration of Sub-Contracts and pay Sub-Contractors
Identify and prepare claims
Negotiate settlements of accounts
Review costs against budget and manage accrual

Profile

The following qualifications are essential:
- BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or experience equivalent

The following qualities/experience are desirable:

- Knowledge and understanding of construction contracts and law

- Commercial awareness 

-  Good communication skills

- Negotiation skills 

-  A general appreciation of design, tendering, and construction processes

-  Analytical thinking

-  Numeracy 

-  An appreciation of financial reporting

-  IT skills 

The job will require the successful candidate to be very good at prioritising and balancing the workload, focusing on the most important issues of
the day insofar as they relate to each business without forgetting those tasks which still need to be done to run an efficient commercial office
within the Operations team.

The successful candidate will have a reasonably degree of freedom to use their own judgement however some higher-level decisions will need to
be discussed with Senior Management and/or Directors. The candidate’s willingness to raise issues and enter into discussions within the team will
only be considered a strength
