Description of the assignment

Switchgear Services is a nationally recognised manufacturer of LV Switchgear and sub distribution equipment based in Honiton, Devon. Recently we have become part of Vinci Energies UK&ROI and with it have become part of their Actemium Brand. This exciting new chapter for Switchgear Services allows us to continue grow and expand our operations in stable and sustainable manner. As a result, we are seeking to recruit for an Estimator/Contracts Engineer to join or team. The role will see you carry out project delivery from start to finish. The ideal candidate will have experience of working in the LV Switchgear industry estimating and delivering on projects however applications from potential candidates with transferable skills or those in a more junior role looking to take the next step will also be welcomed.

The role:

 

  • Your day will be spent as part of an estimating/contracts engineering team, liaising with the shop floor, projects team and customers.
  • You will be required to interpret line diagrams and written specifications to produce a quotation to send to our customers.
  • This will entail use of various software packages (for which we train in house), email, SAP, MS office.
  • AutoCAD LT is utilised for 2d drawings with technical support on hand to take assist with more complex requirements and drawings where applicable.
  • Full training will be provided for the specifics, but a working knowledge of LV electrical systems is essential for the role.
  • Assume responsibility for the project and tenders in terms of financial performance, deadline compliance and technical performance of the work.
  • Responsible for the management of projects under their authority, covering all activities.
  • Responsible for determining the projected cost estimates in the closing of business deals, reporting to the Business Unit General Manager, and proposing solutions to resolve discrepancies with the budget.
  • Organises bid and contract reviews whilst monitoring changes in the contract performance.
  • Verifies & validates sales orders before acknowledging receipts.
  • Ensures the quarterly account closing of their projects are properly carried out and the forecast estimates are dully performed.
  • Manages the procurement and purchases for their projects.
  • Is the customer interface for every aspect of their project.
  • Develop and manage key customer relationships, through regular reviews of contract performance with customers, understanding and managing needs and gaps.
  • Work alongside the sales and management team to seek and identify opportunities for business growth both within and outside the existing contract base

Profile

Skills, Knowledge and Experience;

 

  • Electrical Knowledge and understanding 

  • CAD qualified/experienced

  •  Microsoft Office software package inc. outlook/Excel

  •  Excellent customers service / communication skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure both alone and as part of a team.

  • A good understanding of LV Switchgear design & manufacture would be desirable.

  • Degree or HNC/HND qualified in Electrical engineering or equivalent technical discipline would be preferred however applicants able to demonstrate relevant experience or transferrable skills would be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.

  •  

    A willingness to occasionally attend site and discuss projects with clients as required.

  •  Good understanding of commercial issues affecting project performance and experience in assessing value / evaluating variations of works undertaken.

  • Calm professional manner, but able to take firm and timely decisions.

  •  Positive "can do" attitude, be proactive to identify and resolve management problems.

  •  Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills; able to manage multiple projects simultaneously without compromising on standards and quality.

Working hours are generally 08:00-16:30 Monday to Friday, 40Hrs per week. Extended hours or business travel may be required from time to time as required by the business
