Description of the assignment

Actemium ICP Business Unit is working on designing and delivering utility connections to the E-mobility and Industrial sectors, specifically electrical connections. We provide LV and 11kv Connection to the grid for our customers across UK, who are looking to recruit a Senior Design Engineer. To be part of the HV Engineering  design team in delivering commercially and technically
accurate designs in a timely manner.

Design segments:


• Electrical Substations and Grid connections - mainly at 11kV and 33kV
• Contestable designs for DNO and IDNO Design Submissions
• Earthing System Design
• Protection Systems/ Grading studies

 

Job Duties:

• Produce:
o a project-specific DNO/ IDNO/ Private network electrical design
o Bill of quantities of equipment in line with relevant IEC, DNO, IDNO, and client specifications
o cable calculations
o technical reports to accompany the design submissions detailing the specifics of the proposed connection arrangement
o Earthing designs / layouts
• Review client specifications
• Design HV substation layouts and elevations
• Complete DNO and IDNO POC applications
• Complete protection settings
• Site development / Due diligence studies
• Development and review of the single-line diagrams
• Capacity and Network planning studies
• Liaise with external design houses and consultancies to produce accurate designs
• Interface with and attend meetings with clients, IDNO or DNO
• Review equipment manufacturers’ proposals and liaise with equipment manufacturers to ensure equipment suitability in line with the proposed design.
• Approve and issue approved design for construction
• Input into the contract project plan, reporting progress as necessary and identifying any risks to the project progress and completion dates.
• Ensure that the law is complied with at all times, including Electricity at Work, H&S, ESQCR and CDM Regulations.

 

Additional Duties:


• Overall responsibility for the engineering design of the project
• Direct contact with the client representing Actemium Brand
• Coordinate project requirements at the design stage with civil, electrical, protection & control designers
• Coordinate design with clients agents, sub-contractors, consultants and designers
• Lead project from commencement until the handover to the Project Delivery Team
• Support the Project Delivery Team during Project Design Change Process
• Configure and maintain the project program through the design phase of the project
• Preparation of design phase safety documentation on the projects, Design Risk Assessments and preliminary H&S plans where necessary
• Produce design approval packages and management of the design approval process with the UK DNOs/IDNOs
• Complete the project’s Environmental and Sustainability files
• Interface with and support the estimating process with Project Managers

Profile

Skills and Qualifications:

• HNC minimum qualified in an Electrical Engineering discipline
• IEng Member of The IET preferred
• At least 2 years HV Substation design to DNO/IDNO Specifications
• Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership preferred
• Working knowledge of British Standards and G81’s
• Working knowledge of office software – MS word, excel, PowerPoint, project
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and preferred knowledge of Amtech
• Advantageous: working knowledge of design software: Revit, CDEGS etc
