Digital Transformation Manager

Role Purpose


The Digital Transformation Manager is responsible for driving the strategic adoption of digital tools, data solutions, and modern ways of working across the Project & Engineering organisation. This role ensures that transformation initiatives are aligned with business objectives, improve project delivery performance, enhance efficiency, and enable a culture of digital excellence. The role acts as the bridge between engineering teams, IT, business stakeholders, and programme delivery functions to ensure coordinated and sustainable digital change.

Key Responsibilities


Digital Strategy & Roadmap


Develop and maintain the organisation’s digital transformation roadmap aligned with PMO strategy and wider business goals.
Identify digital solutions, tools, and processes that improve project execution, engineering operations, reporting, and governance.
Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend innovations that bring measurable value.
Project & Programme Delivery


Lead digital transformation projects from ideation through delivery, ensuring clear scope, benefit definition, risks, and success criteria.
Integrate digital initiatives into PMO governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with project lifecycle processes.
Support engineering teams in implementing digital solutions, driving adoption and removing barriers.
Stakeholder Engagement


Work closely with engineering, IT, data teams, and business leaders to understand pain points and opportunities for digital improvement.
Facilitate cross-functional working groups and workshops to co-create solutions and embed new practices.
Communicate progress, benefits, and outcomes of transformation initiatives to senior leadership.
Process Improvement & Data Enablement


Analyse existing processes and workflows to identify inefficiencies and digitalisation opportunities.
Champion data-driven decision-making by improving data capture, integration, visualisation, and reporting across projects.
Support the rollout and optimisation of systems such as project management platforms, engineering design tools, and collaboration systems.
Change Management & Capability Building


Develop and deliver training, guidance, and communication materials to support user adoption.
Promote digital literacy within the PMO and engineering functions through coaching, support, and continuous improvement activities.
Embed new ways of working to ensure long-term sustainability of transformation initiatives.

Profile

Skills & Experience


Essential


Proven experience in digital transformation, change management, or technology-led business improvement.
Strong understanding of project delivery methodologies (e.g., waterfall, agile, hybrid).
Experience working within or alongside engineering, technical, or infrastructure-focused organisations.
Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and influence without direct authority.
Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead projects, manage resources, and deliver measurable outcomes.
Desirable


Experience implementing project management and collaboration tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, Power BI, SharePoint, Jira, digital field tools).
Understanding of systems engineering or engineering lifecycle processes.
Knowledge of data governance, analytics, automation, digital twin technologies or AI.
Relevant qualifications (e.g., APMG, Agile, PRINCE2, PROSCI, PMI, Lean Six Sigma).
