Description of the assignment

Working as part of our Projects division, we are looking for an experienced Engineering Lead to work in our project office and construction sites in Ipswich. This role will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for all engineering, quality, and IT activities, ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of complex geotechnical works. The role is responsible for upholding the highest standards of technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and digital innovation, while fostering a collaborative culture and supporting the successful delivery of the project’s ground engineering objectives.

 You will responsible for:

  • Providing strategic leadership and direction for all engineering activities ensuring alignment with project objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, manage, and develop the engineering team, fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, technical excellence, and quality.
  • Oversee the design and execution of geotechnical works, including cut-off walls, soil improvement, piling, and retaining structures.
  • Ensure the effective use of advanced geotechnical techniques and specialist equipment.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments, project leadership, and alliance partners to ensure integrated project delivery, ensuring seamless sharing of knowledge and feedback with alliance partners to support continuous improvement.
  • Assume responsibility for the overall quality management system including the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of quality processes and procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for quality assurance (including audits) and quality control activities, ensuring all engineering and construction works comply with relevant standards, specifications, and client requirements.
  • Provide overarching leadership for IT management, including digital engineering tools, IT infrastructure, data management, and technology-driven process improvements.
  • Ensure robust cybersecurity, data integrity, and digital compliance across all project systems and platforms.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in engineering, quality, and IT processes and methodologies.
  • Ensure management interfaces with construction teams, quality managers, IT specialists, and technical advisors to resolve technical, quality, and digital challenges and support delivery.
  • Oversee resource allocation, budgeting, and scheduling for engineering, quality, and IT activities.
  • Represent the engineering, quality, and IT functions in leadership meetings, governance boards, and with external stakeholders as required.

Profile

Profile

  • The successful candidate will be a Chartered Engineer or equivalent professional qualification in civil, structural, or geotechnical engineering.
  • Have extensive experience in leading engineering teams on major infrastructure or construction projects, ideally including nuclear or large-scale energy projects.
  • A strong knowledge of geotechnical engineering design, construction methods, project management, quality management systems, and IT management.
  • Proven  ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and complex technical, quality, and digital challenges.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with advanced geotechnical techniques and specialist equipment (e.g., piling, diaphragm walling, soil mixing, grouting).
  • Demonstrated experience in quality assurance, quality control, IT systems, digital engineering tools, and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of NEC3/4 type of contract is desirable
