Description of the assignment

Principal Stress Engineer

Location: Birchwood Park, Risley

Arrangement: Hybrid working, 3 days per week in the office. On occasion secure room working may be required, project dependant.

 

Description of the role:

A vacancy has arisen for a Principal Stress Engineer within the Analysis Team based at our Risley office. We are looking for a focused, enthusiastic and skilled Engineer to join the Analysis Team and to integrate with project design teams as required. You will be experienced in leading the delivery of finite element solutions and manual calculations to support consultancy projects for internal and external clients.

 

Principal Stress Engineers are responsible for definition and delivery of a complete package of work, often capturing requirements in collaboration with our clients and often delivering through others, providing support and guidance to junior members of staff. You would be responsible for the checking and approval of deliverables as well as ensuring that industry standards and quality procedures are met.

 

Key responsibilities:

Working in the NUVIA UK Analysis Team you will report to the Analysis team leader and be responsible for:

  • Carrying out FE analysis and hand calculations for consultancy projects for the substantiation of designs.
  • Creating analysis documents, requirements plans and estimates; checking or approving calculations and analysis by other engineers, experienced in adopting quality procedures.
  • Be acknowledged as technical leader, with a strategic approach to building their capability within the business. Normally responsible for defining and communicating analysis approaches.
  • Supervise colleagues and coordinate small teams, depending on experience, and be responsible for the output of others.
  • Engaged with the full project lifecycle: (identify opportunity, bid & win, mobilise, drive delivery tasks, respond to stakeholder comments), able to anticipate the impact of analysis work on the wider design process and liaise across discipline.
  • Principal Engineers are able to anticipate contractual risk within their field and take responsibility for setting and meeting timescales in their specialism.
  • Line management responsibilities where appropriate.
     

Position of Principal Engineers within the organisation:

  • Reporting to Principal Engineers, Chief Engineers, Engineering Managers.
  • Regularly interacts with clients and managers of other engineering disciplines.

Profile

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Expertise in hand and FEA calculations and either ANSYS, LS-DYNA, CAESAR II, Hyperworks, or Staad Pro/Robot.
  • Experience in the nuclear sector and using Industry codes and standards relevant to the Nuclear Industry.
  • Experience of wider design process, ability to develop technical deliverables such as drawings and specs outside of analysis work, with broad experience of requirements, drawing production, materials and manufacturing methods.
  • Demonstrable performance in technical leadership, delivery within time and budget constraints, rigour and commitment to customer requirements, desire to improve our business, development/supervision of other engineers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in client-facing roles, to present results and formal analysis reports, adapting styles as appropriate.
  • Aptitude for working creatively within multi-disciplinary project teams, integrating stress analysis into the design process.
  • First or upper second-class degree in a relevant mechanical subject.
     

Desirable:

  • Understanding of Inventor & AutoCAD of general 3D design tools.
  • Knowledge analytical principles and methods related to Dynamic loading and response, Fatigue & Fracture, Seismic, Blast, Thermal or Fluids.
  • Ability to apply the following Industry Standards: Eurocodes, BS 5950, BS EN 13001, BS 2573, ASME III & VIII, BS EN 13480, ANSI B31.3 or B31.1.
  • CEng / Member of a relevant institution (IMechE or IET).
