Description of the assignment

Main Purpose of the Job:

This is a development role designed to support the Estimating team while gaining hands-on experience in the tendering process. The successful candidate will shadow and learn from experienced estimators, gradually building the skills and confidence needed to lead and coordinate tenders independently.

Working under the guidance of the Estimating Manager and other team members, the role involves assisting with the preparation and submission of high-quality, competitive proposals that align with Bachy Soletanche Ltd.'s business strategy and procedures. 

 

Physical Working Environment:

  • Office Based
  • Full driving license required as the role does involve travel as required to visit clients

Profile

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Shadow and support the Estimating team throughout the bid process
  • Assist in reviewing tender enquiry documents (e.g. drawings, specifications, site investigations) and understanding client requirements
  • Help ensure innovative and appropriate solutions are developed, with input from the design team where needed
  • Support the selection of correct methods, outputs and resources by liaising with operations and project teams
  • Assist in preparing tender price schedules and documents in line with pricing strategy and company procedures
  • Help ensure cost plans are accurate and reflect project requirements and risks
  • Communicate professionally with clients during and after the bid process to build strong relationships and encourage repeat business
  • Attend meetings and respond to client queries, maintaining a professional image
  • Support the handover of secured projects to operations and commercial teams
  • Participate in presenting tender proposals and contributing to client meetings
  • Ensure compliance with company strategy, procedures, and authority levels
  • Promote and uphold the company's core values and commitment to safety (Home Safe)

 

Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
  • Comfortable working under time pressure and meeting deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Customer-focused mindset with an eye for identifying opportunities
  • Eager to learn, develop and contribute to innovation in ground engineering
  • Awareness of the UK construction or geotechnical market is a plus
  • Ideally degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or a related field, but not essential
